Biography: Colm Desmond (born in Cork) holds a BA in Fine Art (hons, 2004) from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology (IADT) and an MA, Art in the Contemporary World (hons, 2008), from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. He also holds qualifications in economics, politics and public administration. He lives and works in Dublin. Desmond has exhibited works from the series 'in/elegant formalism - an open-ended enquiry' since 2009. - a solo installation of 2D and 3D work at Basement Project Space, Cork (March 2010), 3D-work at Pallas Contemporary Projects, D7 in July 2009 (artist-initiated project), and photographic work at the Front Lounge, D2 in March 2009. He did the stage design for a new play by Dublin writer Oran Ryan at Ranelagh Arts Festival, September 2009 and collaborated with Ryan in an installation of photographic and text pieces, ‘Off the Street’, at DIT Library, Kevin Street, D8, (7-11 March 2009). Recent group exhibitions include 'home', at dlr Lexicon, Dún Laoghaire 2015, Eigse Carlow Open Selection, 2013 and 2012, Ranelagh Contemporary Arts 2012, Claremorris Open (COE) 2009, (3D work), Eigse Carlow, June 2008 Iontas Small Works, Sligo, July-August 2007, and a group show with MA students at this is not a shop, Benburb St. D7 (March 2007). Previous group exhibitions include Iontas Small Works 2005, OPEN EV+A 2005 Limerick City Gallery of Art, and C2-Contemporary Art from Cork 1995-2005 at the Crawford Municipal Art Gallery, Cork. Work is included in the IADT and OPW collections. |
